What makes a quality user experience?

[Original video] In today's digital world, user experience (UX) is a critical component of any product or service. But what makes a quality UX? In this article, I'll be exploring my thoughts on the subject and how to manifest a quality UX.

Defining a Quality UX

A quality UX is the outcome of a solid process that is supported by multiple partners. This process leads to quality outcomes that generate trust in a brand and make it more valuable. Ultimately, a quality UX should be iconic, creating an experience that stands out.

Important Factors

There are several factors that are important to creating a quality UX. These include:

  • Compassion

  • Inclusivity

  • Relevance

  • Profitability

Compassion and Inclusivity

Compassion and inclusivity intersect to create accessibility. This could mean 503 compliance, but it could also mean different stripes of accessibility, such as price point.

Relevance and Profitability

Relevance and profitability intersect to create something that is valued by the user. This could lead to an upside for the product.

Manifestation

A quality UX can manifest itself in several ways:

  • Processes: Quality improvement sprints, bug bashes, and continuous learning and iteration.

  • Visuals: An iconic design system, brand and product complementing each other, and surfaces that are fun and joyful or appropriate to the brand.

  • Experiences: Micro interactions, animations, and a holistic experience from onboarding to off-boarding.

  • Ethics: Marginalized groups seeing themselves in the product, clear consent and control for users, and an evolving approach to design.

Conclusion

Creating a quality UX is a complex process that requires the collaboration of multiple partners. It involves factors such as compassion, inclusivity, relevance, and profitability, and can manifest itself in processes, visuals, experiences, and ethics. Ultimately, a quality UX should be iconic, creating an experience that stands out.
