Hello visitor!
I'm a multi-hyphenate who is a curious and agile learner. These qualities make me an effective designer, researcher, strategist, and mentor to other designers. I pride myself on knowing how to learn through change; a requirement in these frothy days of Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, and Conversational Interfaces.
My skillset enables teams to see around corners before they know the corners are there, to anticipate and navigate change rather than continually react to it. This is because I see design not as a static profession, but a dynamic field that requires resilience and adaptability to be practiced effectively. Above all, I deeply value creativity, open mindedness, and strong opinions loosely held — now more than ever.
A strong theme running through my life and career is the notion of visual-meets-technical (ha! more hyphens), which is where my curiosity truly thrives. I relish aesthetic beauty while being drawn to the technical underpinnings of how things work — a huge reason I'm drawn to design within tech.
A great example of visual-meets-techical is film. With film, you have locations, set building, architecture, lighting, composition, editing, writing, design, acting, photography, emotion, choreography and so much more. Pulling together a creative army of people who create experiences with these pieces leads me to believe it's our highest art form. My love of film is continually evolving, but I would recommend the directors Akira Kurosawa, Sofia Coppola, Stanley Kubrick, and David Fincher as places to start.
Then there are watches and bikes. When I think about their cogs and wheels and springs, they are like cousins several times removed. Once again, the technical meets the aesthetic. Easily overlooked, these devices are mechanical computers that use human bodies as batteries and contain incredible examples of design and technical execution; finding examples of quality like this outside software keeps me fresh and open to new ideas.
Which brings me back to the type of design I practice. To be engaged in Product Design for software is to balance aesthetics and technical foundations for the sake of experience. Whether you’re watching a great film that whisks you away for two hours, admiring a vintage watch, or having a great day out on your bike — that is an experience that trades in balancing beauty and technology. This is what I love, and this is the vibe I bring to the function.
Ever your partner,
